City officials invite residents to discuss flooding challenges

St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch and City Councilmember Brandi Gabbard are hosting a public forum Tuesday, Feb.13, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. to discuss the city’s increasing flooding issues. Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital is hosting the Resilience and Community Listening Session at its Research and Education Building at 600 5th St. S. Road Closure Impacting Snell Isle 2/12 - 2/14

Road Closure Notice:

22nd Avenue N between 22nd Street N and 25th Street N will be closed 2/12/2024 at 4:00 am until approximately 2/14/2024 5:00 pm.

This closure is required for CSX railroad track maintenance.

Snell Isle Traffic Impacted On Sunday

An Outdoor Assembly Permit has been issued for the St. Petersburg Distance Classic on Sunday, February 11th, 2024. The event will consist of a 5K, a 10K, a half marathon and a full marathon. The event will begin and end in the North Shore Pool Parking Lot. The start times for the event will be as follows:

Marathon – Starts at 6:30 am. The route is north from Northshore Pool, over the Snell Isle Bridge and Brightwaters, North into Snell Isle and onto 1st Street; back towards Northshore Pool from Coffee Pot Blvd, around Vinoy Hotel to Central Avenue; North on 1st Street to 3rd Avenue; 3rd Avenue to Mirror Lake; around Mirror Lake to 6th Street; 6th Street to Central Avenue; Central Avenue to 28th Street (turnaround) to 22nd Street; 22nd Street south to the Pinellas Trail; Pinellas Trail to Tyrone Mall and then back along the trail to Bayshore Drive; Bayshore Drive back to North Shore Pool Parking Lot.

Half Marathon – Starts at 6:30 am. The same route as the marathon, except at the trail it turns back on the trail towards Bayshore Drive.

10K – Starts at 6:30 am. The route is the same as the Marathon and Half Marathon until it reaches in front of the Vinoy Hotel where it turns around back towards Northshore Pool.

5K – Starts at 7:00 am. The route is north into Snell Isle and Brightwaters then back to North Shore Pool parking lot.

Early starters will be permitted to start along the sidewalk at 6:00 am. Below is a breakdown of approximate roadway clearance times:

Snell Isle – 8:30 am (earlier in some areas) Coffee Pot Blvd – 9:00 am Mirror Lake – 9:30 am Central Avenue (western portion) – 10:00 am 22nd Street South – 10:30 am Vinoy Hotel/North Shore Pool Area – 1:00 pm

Access to the following areas will be indicated as listed below:

North Shore Pool North Parking Lot – If not reserved for this event, access will be permitted at all times with delays. Access should be made at 10th Avenue Northeast.

Snell Isle Bridge – Access across the bridge will be restricted to one lane. Traffic will be alternated onto and off of the island via this one lane. There will be delays at times.
